Dune Terms of Use

1. Purpose of the Service

The App is a personal faith and meditation tool for virtual altar and meditation spaces, wishes, offerings, daily practice records, music, timers, and portable space content packages. A Dune account is not required for ordinary use.

The App does not provide medical, psychological, legal, or other professional advice and does not guarantee religious outcomes, treatment results, fulfillment of wishes, or any specific result. Seek qualified professional assistance for physical or mental health concerns.

2. Eligibility and Responsibility

You must have legal capacity to accept these Terms and comply with laws applicable where you use the App. Minors must obtain consent from a parent or legal guardian.

You are responsible for your device, app-store account, email account, on-device data, and content you create or share through the App.

3. On-Device Data

Most settings, backgrounds, music, wishes, practice and meditation records, and content packages are stored only on the device. You are responsible for backup and safekeeping. We cannot guarantee recovery of data lost through App deletion, device failure, operating-system actions, insufficient storage, or other causes.

4. User Content and Rights

You must have all copyrights, licenses, publicity rights, privacy permissions, and other rights needed for images, audio, text, documents, and other materials you add, create, import, or share. You may not use illegal, infringing, harmful, deceptive, hateful, harassing, or malicious content.

You retain rights in content you lawfully own. When you use a system sharing function, you grant only the processing permission necessary to complete that export or share action.

5. Creating, Importing, and Sharing Packages

Practice-method and meditation-sharing packages are portable configuration and media files, not standalone apps or executable programs. Recipients should review the file list, source, and proposed changes before deciding to replace a current space or create a new one.

We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, suitability, religious views, or results of third-party packages. Do not import a suspicious file.

6. Free Spaces

The first virtual altar and the first meditation space are completely free forever. The second and subsequent spaces require an active subscription under the current subscription rules displayed in the App. The App does not provide a locally managed 30-day trial, and using the free spaces does not create any automatic charge.

7. App Store and Google Play Auto-Renewable Subscriptions

Subscription products, benefits, prices, and periods are those displayed in the App and the applicable store at purchase. Apple or Google Play charges the user's store account after confirmation. A subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off before the current period ends as required by the applicable store.

Subscriptions can be changed or canceled through the applicable store's subscription settings. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription. Restore Purchases restores only store-verified access for the same store account, not on-device data. Apple or Google handles refunds under its policies. Additional terms are provided in the Dune Subscription Service Terms in the App.

8. Optional Account Verification

Individual, Dharma teacher, and temple verification are optional. Applicants represent that submitted information and documents are true, accurate, complete, and concern a person or organization they are authorized to represent. We may request additional documents, a video interview, or in-person verification.

We may reject an application or revoke a credential for false statements, impersonation, altered documents, loss of eligibility, or another legitimate reason. A verification badge is not a recommendation, warranty, or endorsement of a creator's content, religious position, service quality, or results.

9. Teaching Recordings and Creator Content

Recording teaching audio is available without an additional charge to users whose individual, Dharma teacher, or temple verification is currently valid. Listening and importing do not require verification. Creating, saving, or sharing a package that contains teaching audio remains subject to the App's current subscription rules.

A publisher must own or have permission for every recording and must not include unlawful, infringing, deceptive, impersonating, hateful, harassing, dangerous, or privacy-violating material. Imported teaching audio is read-only and may not be repackaged. A verification badge confirms only the publisher profile and does not prove that audio is unedited or that Dune endorses its content. Users may report content and block a verified creator. We may disable credentials or audio fingerprints and prevent import or playback when reasonably necessary for safety, rights protection, legal compliance, or enforcement of these Terms.

10. Prohibited Conduct

You may not:
• Violate law or third-party rights;
• Bypass or alter purchase validation, digital signatures, safeguards, or use restrictions;
• Forge verification, impersonate another party, or distribute misleading content;
• Distribute malware, harmful files, or unauthorized protected materials;
• Interfere with the App, app-store services, or another user's normal use; or
• Use the App for harassment, hate, fraud, or other abusive activity.

11. Intellectual Property

The App's software, design, trademarks, built-in images, audio, text, and other content supplied by us belong to us or their lawful owners. These Terms grant only a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, and non-transferable license to use them through the App's intended functions.

12. Changes and Interruptions

We may update, adjust, or discontinue features for quality, safety, legal compliance, or operational reasons, with reasonable notice of material changes. Device conditions, operating systems, networks, app-store services, maintenance, or events beyond reasonable control may temporarily interrupt functionality.

13. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the App is provided “as is.” We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free service, fitness for every personal purpose, or compatibility with every device.

Except where liability cannot legally be limited or results from our willful misconduct or gross negligence, we are not liable for indirect, special, or consequential loss, lost profits, loss of on-device data, or loss arising from third-party content. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

14. Privacy

The Dune Privacy Policy in the App governs the handling of personal information, on-device data, app-store subscription information, and optional verification materials.

15. Changes to Terms, Governing Law, and Contact

We may update these Terms as applicable law, app-store requirements, or App functionality changes. Updated Terms apply from the stated effective date.

Without limiting mandatory consumer protections in your place of residence, these Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The parties should first attempt to resolve disputes in good faith.
